Our Story

THE BREAKDOWN is a full service costume and prop paint studio. Located in Jersey City, it serves the NYC/ NJ area and globally. We specialize in ageing & dyeing, hand painting, distressing, bulk teching and prop making. Our clients range from Broadway, fashion, film and special events. Our work can currently be seen in Broadway’s Dead Outlaw and Real Women Have Curves, the upcoming movie musical Kiss of the Spiderwoman, M. Night Shyamalan’s Servant TV series and Netflix’s American Primeval-to name a few.

The studio’s staff is a collective of professional artists who are specialists in their craft and who are actively working in the industry. Their attention to detail, their passion for their art, and their ability to beautifully execute an idea from concept to reality has made them forces in the field. We love collaborating with our clients and have a hands-on approach with our projects. Whatever the project and however big the “ask”, we always try to meet each challenge with excitement, dedication and precision. There’s no project too big or too small. We love what we do and want you too as well!
